So sorry to have taken so long to post anything. We lost my dear momma this past October. She has been ill for the better part of 5-6 yrs. suffering from breast cancer twice, lung cancer once, 2-stomach surgeries, she fell and broke her leg TWICE (yes, the same leg!) and numerous other minor aches and illnesses. This past October her sweet little body just couldn't take anymore and she went home to be with her Heavenly Father.

We are still dealing with her death as well as all the legalities that come when someone passes away and has lots of stuff, including a house.

Please be patient with me as I'm sure my posts will be few and far between, at least for a little while longer.

Hoping everyone had a blessed and wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!! 'Talk' with you soon,

God Bless,
Pat, A Remade Life
Have you ever noticed that when you are a 'working human' (and I'm including all of you who either work from home or stay home and raise your children/grandchildren---that's definitely WORK!!!!) the thought of a 3-day weekend or any weekend for that matter, is like an early morning spring shower, so refreshing and renewing! Ok, so that's a little more 'poetic' then I normally get, but you get the message. In other words, '3-day weekends are da bomb'!!!

I've noticed lately that I seem to be living more and more for the upcoming weekend, only to have it slip quickly through my fingers as I fill each day with ALL the things I can't/don't get done during the week. As Sunday evening rolls around, I find myself tired, frustrated and wondering why I didn't take some time to just enjoy life, family and my Heavenly Creator!!

Well, I decided a few months ago to change all the above....except the part about enjoying myself. I made a declaration that Sundays were 'off limits' to all of the following: work/grocery shopping/work/cooking/work, etc. You get my drift....no WORK, at least not anything other than what I really wanted to do. We like church on Saturday evenings so that's not a problem and we often watch a live service on our computers on Sunday mornings as we eat our breakfast. It helps to set the tone for the day.

I would like to tell you that it has gone smoothly but as often happens when we make a declaration of independence, it has not. But I've had a few Sundays where I NEVER got out of my pajama's and only cooked what I could put in the microwave. Those Sundays were devine!! And honestly the rest have been less hectic than the ones before my 'pronoucement of lacguor'.

So how did I spend my last 3-day weekend you ask? MOSTLY in my pajamas and I tried not to fill the rest of the time with anything other than family, friends and my loving Lord. It was devine!!

Here are a few pictures I took of my great weekend:
This seems to be happening alot lately (not the blogging part--my bad, I know I need to blog more!) I wake up before my alarm goes off and lay in my bed trying to solve the problems of the world---well, at least those in my own life!

What thoughts are going through my head at 4:30am in the morning?-----"remember to pay the insurance bill today, it was due yesterday'; 'what am I going to feed Brayden (my grandson and best baby in the WORLD) for breakfast this morning, I don't have any eggs'; 'I need to sort through all the vintage clothes I just bought on Friday and get them ready to post in my new internet shop---www.mykitschycloset.etsy.com'; 'can I stay in my pajama's all morning or will I have to get dressed at some point--I don't want to get dressed or go anywhere today!'; and my all-time favorite----'can I go back to sleep or should I just get up and get on with life?!?' What---you were expecting me to have REALLY deep, earth-shattering thoughts? Nah, not at 4:30am in the morning!!!!

But seriously, I have found myself thinking more and more about my life, past, present and future, and I have been concerned with what I've found. I think all this is probably brought on because I will be having a "BIG" birthday in a few months----the big 6-0!!! Just typing it makes me shutter-uugghhh!! Anyway, I've started to wonder what my life would have been like if I had made 'different' decisions in my younger days. Maybe not have married so young or started a family so soon. Perhaps if I had stayed in college and become a graphic designer as I had planned. Or perhaps me and my best friend at that time, Jackie, would have traveled to foreign lands to absorb all we could of their artist cultures. Or even have done some missionary work here in the states or overseas--perhaps. But dwelling on 'what could have been' does no one any good!

And then I begin to see the faces of my children, I see then as the little ones they once were and remember the precious adults they have become. I remember all the pain and illness my mom has gone through the past few years and I cherish every moment I still have with her. I feel the warm breathe of my grandson Brayden as he falls asleep on my shoulder, his sweet body cuddled in my arms, and I realize........I am blessed.

There is a wonderful scripture in Psalms 90--"Teach us to make the most of our time....and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!" (NLT) I believe that's what everyone wants in life, no matter your religion, no matter your nationality, no matter your race, political leanings or life-preferences. We all just want to matter, to have our efforts in life be successful!!

And although success can be measured differently by different standards, in my own eyes I am successful! Was this the life I planned for myself so many years ago--definitely NOT!! But is this the life, with all it's struggles and hardships and pains, that is making me the person God intended me to be----absolutely!!

And so this early morning 'thought session' becomes a time to thank my Heavenly Father for all that I have and all that I will become. I'm not were I need to be but I'm on my way, and that's ok!! And so I leave you with a few pictures to enjoy and I pray you are blessed as I have been blessed.......

A good friend of mine recently made a comment that really struck home with me. He just couldn't understand why is it I put sooooooo much effort into a resale business when there is such little return right now. His comment went something like this: "Why do you work so hard on getting things just right at your shop when it doesn't seem to pay out very well? I just don't understand, it doesn't make sense!"

And he's right---it doesn't make sense to work full-time at a 'real' job, to use your free weekends' to work yourself into the ground trying to get a side business going. It doesn't make sense to get up super early on your days off just so you can beat your competition to the garage sales/estate sales to find 'treasures' for resale. And it doesn't make sense to try and figure out WHAT in the world the buying public wants this week which is ALWAYS different from what they wanted LAST week!!!

None of this makes sense and yet, so many of us resalers continue doing all of the above--why?!?

Is it the thrill of the hunt? Is it the thought that the next treasure we find for $1 could make us millionaires?! Or is it something else?

Well, I can't answer for anyone else, but I can tell you how I feel---its the hunt for me!! There is just something about digging through box after box of junk, looking for that one item that will help you retire in total luxury. That one elusive treasure has kept me digging through old barns full of petrified raccoon poop (true story), trash piles sitting outside a remodeled house and again, tons and tons of boxes full of everything from vintage dinnerware to broken worthless children's toys!! Picking, as we resellers call it, is very addictive.

There is great joy in seeing value in an item that everyone else seems to have overlooked. And it doesn't hurt to make some money off your investment too!

So, back to the issue of 'working hard with little return'. I wish I could come up with some deep, meaningful reason for what we 'pickers' do with our lives, but the truth is.......I just don't know. Perhaps it is all based on hope--the hope that all our efforts will someday bring us financial security--the hope that we are making a difference in someone's life--the hope that the things from old that brought us joy will do the same for the next generation. Yes, I think that's it---Hope--I like that answer.
As you can probably tell from my posts, I'm a Christian, a believer in Jesus as the son of God, Savior. Now, while I profess this openly and whole-heartedly, I do understand that not everyone shares my belief's and there are some who are even opposed/turned-off by this. I respect that and it is my goal as a christian to always be sensitive to others ways/beliefs while at the same time hold strongly to my own---not an easy task in this day and time when many take offense so easily.

But one of the things I have found in all my wanderings and friendships with various and asundry people is that there seems to be one universal truth---to help our fellow man. It is often the goal of many religions and sects, even those who don't have particularly strong beliefs--it is a 'common' thread.

Helping can come in many forms. At it's very basic level a kind word can turn someone's day around and give them the encouragement they need to go on. A simple compliment can bring confidence to someone who lives in a world of unsurety. Trust me on this one cause I'm speaking as a person who grew up with depression and uncertainity!! A kind word, a gentle touch can make a big difference!

Help can be giving a co-worker a ride to work when their car is out of service; or taking your elderly neighbor to the store for food; maybe even taking a friend to a movie just to get her out of the house after a nasty break-up with a boyfriend! Don't have time for any of these? Well, how about calling that friend or even texting her that you are thinking of her and care?! Knowing someone is on your side ALWAYS helps!

Yes, help can come in many, many forms---but there is another universal truth that can NOT be ignored---HELP is a verb, indicating ACTION!! This means, WE must take action if any help is to be given!! In the christian world there was a saying--'you've got to put 'feet' on your prayers'!! This means, pray for sure but get out there and DO!! Don't TALK about helping, DO it!!

As you can tell I have fairly strong feelings on this subject---because I've been 'there', you know, in that needy place, that low-spot, that horrible rut where you must have help to climb out and get back on the road! And I'm ashamed to say, I've also been in a position to help others and turned away--this is not something I'm proud of.

But..........this is a new day, a new dawn, a new beginning!! And there is no reason I can't move on and change--and so can you! Please forgive me if you are already in that wonderful place of helping others---I salute you, you are an awesome blossom!!

And so, whatever your belief or thoughts are regarding a 'higher' power, join me in making it your goal to be someone's miracle today,to bless them with a kind word, a compliment or maybe help them financially or take them to lunch. Your choice----just DO it! I have NO doubts you will be rewarded, if not in this world then in the next!
When you have a 2 yr old running around in your life, there are good days and there are great days. Easter this year was a great day! Brayden wasn't old enough to understand the meaning of 'Resurrection Sunday' (that will come soon) but he was definitely old enough to understand how to look for easter eggs and to enjoy the goodies they hold within!!
It was a beautiful day here in Texas, weather was mild and the air was sweet. We enjoyed a wonderful service at church and then just kicked back and relaxed till after lunch---that's when the hunt began!!
Brayden looked like a pro as he searched to and fro for those much coveted easter eggs. And he found them all with very little prompting!!
Here are a few pictures of our wonderful day:
Ok, so I know it looks like we are uhmmm, wishy-washy when it comes to our shop but we really aren't! We really know what we are doing---sometimes.

I said all that to say, we have moved our shop in Winnie--AGAIN! The little house we moved to only a few short months ago just wasn't working out. It was TOO small (yes, our first shop was TOO big) and the porch was just un-usable for us. On top of all that, the customer traffic wasn't very good. And so, we asked to move again, whenever something came available. Little did I realize it would happen so fast!!

I received a call within 2-days of the March show saying there was an opening if we wanted it. And boy did we want it!! It's larger than the little house but not as big as our first shop--1/2 it's size. AND we have 3-covered porches--lots more space and even better traffic!!

So once again we had to move--quickly!! And this time I had to do most of it myself. My son was working and couldn't help much so every weekend I went to Winnie and moved, moved, MOVED again, all the displays, all the decorations, all the items for sale. Don't mean to sound whiny but it was really hard work and I'm glad to be finished----and I have sworn to never, ever, ever move again!!

Here are a few pictures of our shop 'in progress':
A good friend of mine called me yesterday to tell me about a 'preview sale'---a sale before the actual sale day! For pickers, that's a dream come true--we love being able to go to a sale site and leisurely look through everything for sale before the general public is let in. It's awesome and rare!!

So I called my best picking buddy, Judy, and we followed my friend over to the sale site and met some wonderful people who had just lost their mom. As a picker, it is important for us to remember that much of the stuff we 'pick' has come from someone's loss of a loved-one. Their dear mom had lived to the wonderful age of 104 yrs. old!! She sounded like an amazing person. Her daughter even told me that her mom had been a flapper back in the roaring 20's and had carried a little purse with her to dance contests. She showed me the purse and, although my picking heartbeat sped up, I encouraged her to keep that memory of her mom. She kept the purse and I felt blessed to have been included in that wonderful story.

And so, Judy and I picked and picked and picked till we ran out of money and energy!! We both left there with lots of good stuff, great stories about a wonderful woman and some new friends.

But the best part of the evening was when Judy and I went out to eat. We were both starving and it just made sense to finish the evening out with lots of food, sad stories, rants and raves and tons and tons of laughter!!! It is rare that I get to sit down with a friend and just enjoy the time, but I certainly did last night!

So the moral of this blog post? Take time for yourself as often as you can, enjoy your family, enjoy your friends and enjoy your LIFE!! It doesn't last forever!!

On another note, here are a few more pic's of clothing I will be posting soon in a new etsy shop---be looking for it cause I'm thinking it's going to be awesome!!
You know, I've NEVER been accused of just doing 'nothing'! In fact, it's always been the other way with me---I do too much!! My 'problem' has always been that I like so many different things, I love doing different projects, creating art and trying new things. That's really not such a bad thing unless you can't focus--and that's always been my issue, lack of focus.

I've been reading a book lately (also a hard task cause most books can't hold my interest for long) about a group the author calls 'scanners' people who are just like me and love many different and varied things. People like us are often looked at with a 'jaundiced eye'---you know, like we're crazy!! Well, I'm here to tell you we AREN'T crazy, we just have very creative minds that continuously finds interests in different areas!! Now, that's a mouth full, but what it means is we love life and want to participate in EVERYTHING!!

Ok, so I'm pretty much liking this book, but it still feels as if something is just not right. I just can't find peace in anything for very long. So I have begun to pray and seek God's mind on why He made me this way and what I'm doing wrong. He really is such a loving Father to us and I know His plans for me are good.

It finally came to me not too long after I started seeking Him that there MUST be focus in one's life--it's ok to love/participate in many different things, but in order to have true peace--there MUST be focus!! At least, that's what I am finding for my own life. Without focus our minds flitter about from here to there, thinking this thought, that thought, never landing on one thing and often not completing what we are working on. Without focus, there is no peace, true peace of accomplishment, cause you are always running from one issue/project/thing to the next, taking no time to enjoy and dwell on what you've done---again, this is what I am finding in my own life, maybe it's not true for you.

With all that say, I'm still working on my focus and where it needs to be. Wish I could tell you I've found it, but at least I'm getting closer and closer. And there has been great joy in that knowledge-that I'm on my way!!

And so now to the title of this blog-post: I have always loved fabrics/materials and I'm finding out more and more that I love vintage/retro clothing. Everything/project I've been working on lately seems to revolve around textiles of some kind. I even like to call myself a 'textile artist. My mind is constantly coming up with ideas involving fabric/textiles of some kind or another! Therefore, I will be opening a new shop on etsy soon that will sell retro/vintage clothing, some even altered by me to enhance it's look!!! I am excited and nervous about this, all at the same time!!

And above all, I will look at it as a new adventure, a new path to walk down not always knowing where it is leading but trusting that my heavenly Father is guiding my steps!! And if it's NOT my true path, then I've had a good time walking it and I'll just look for another!!

Here are a few pictures of some of the clothing I have in my 'hoard':
(see the images below). Here is my first hippie Whatever Purse "Breezy". Breezy is a sweet girl made from 'whatever' I could find that I thought would give her that cool, groovy look from the 1960's hippie days. She has VERY shaggy hair, a cool headband and she is sporting some fine looking glasses and earrings! Not to mention her totally awesome coin belt.

Breezy is large enough to hold your phone, id, coin purse and lipstick!! She's a child of the '60's and ready to groove with you!
Tomorrow is one of my local shows, the Lake Houston Trade Days. It is a great show that is just 5-minutes down the street from where I live--awesome, right?!? The gentleman who hosts it does a pretty decent job AND it's one of the shows I use to coordinate with the city, however the city no longer hosts it, sooooooooo--I am just a vendor! I must say, I really like that. Coordinating and running a trade show is NOT easy and can be very trying--after all, you know how we vendors are!! (hehehe). I will be setting up tonight till 'dark-30' as we use to say since I had to work today, but I've pretty well got it down and should be able to get it done quickly. Well, that is, after I visit with my fellow vendors and we all look at each others 'treasures' then visit a little more----ok, so I'm going to be there late! But that's ok, I love my fellow vendors and look forward to see them at each show. If you find yourself in the Humble, TX area tomorrow, come and visit me at the Lake Houston Trade Days at 8133 Will Clayton Pkwy, Humble, TX 77338. I'll be the one with all the cool treasures for sale!! ;)
Winnie, Texas on I-10. We are in the little green house by the food court! The last few shows have not been good. Bad weather as well as freezing cold caused very low attendance. This weekend is somewhat 'ify' on the weather issue, but we have high hopes for a better show. Say a prayer!!
I recently downloaded "Picasa" to my computer. It's a photoshop-type of program and I'm really enjoying playing with it. And the best part is......it's FREE! Check it out if you get a chance.
Here are the pictures I put on my facebook page "Remade Life Emporium".
They really are so much fun to make---the sky is the limit on how and what to put on them. And I've got LOTS of odds and ends to 'bling' them up!!

I took a day off work this past Friday and went to spend some time with her at the nursing home. She was in a fine mood!! It was 'Go Texan" day (for those who don't live in Texas, we have a 'Go Texan' day during rodeo season and everyone dresses up in their best western attire!) and the residences were dressed in cute cowboy hats and bandannas. Mom was soooooo cute in her green cowgirl hat and bandanna so I caught her with my phone camera and thought I would share the pictures with you. She is doing very well right now, although she is still wheelchair bound and has been since she broke her leg again this past October. She has had so many problems/issues over the past 5yrs.--numerous surgeries, 2- broken legs, breast cancer and so much more. She is my hero and I love her very much.

I have, of course, included pictures of my little 'pooterman'!! He will be 2-yrs old this Wednesday and I must say I love every minute of every day since he came into my life--yes, even the smelly diapers and the temper tantrums (well, maybe NOT the smelly diapers so much!). He is the love of my life and I thank God without ceasing for making me his 'Gigi'.

God is good and has blessed me so much and so many good things are coming--I'll share with you as things happen!!
As some of you may know I had foot surgery almost 5 weeks ago---and, although it went very well, a reaction to the meds and edema in my foot caused me to be laid up a little longer then usual. Now, I am NOT one to just lay around and watch soaps (and what's up with cable?!-all those channels and nothing good to watch!!!) so I decided to try to get a little creative work in. However, not being very mobile kinda limited what I could do.

So, I gathered as many bolts of laces, trims, fabrics, kitschy items and STUFF that I could grab, sat myself down on my sofa, propped my foot up on a pillow and started sewing!!

The one rule I made myself stick to was "JUST HAVE FUN"!!! Under no circumstances would I let myself stress out over, 'does it look right?", 'is it too small', is it too big', is it kitschy enough', 'is it too odd'!!?? and on and on and on........NO!!

And so I just started grabbing whatever was within my reach and sewed it on the purse. Some purses turned out cute, some turned out a little odd, but ALL were fun to make!!! And it was GREAT therapy as I recovered. As a matter of fact, it was sooooooooo much fun that I decided to finish them up and I've posted them in my etsy shop for sale- www.aremadelife.etsy.com .

And that's how the "Whatever Purse" was born!!! I do plan on continuing making them, even though my foot is doing better. (I'm still in that silly 'boot' thing but will hopefully be out of it soon!) Here are a few pictures of my Whatever Purses---let me know what you think!
It is a time when we let those around us, those we hold so dear, that we love them and appreciate their contributions to our life. This is a good thing, however, there are many, many people out there who have no one to hug them, no one to reach out and let them know they are loved. This is a sad thing. And so, our challege to you is the find someone today who might seem lonely or sad---let them know they are loved, they are worthy and give them a kiss---well, a 'chocolate' one for sure!! We are 'A Remade Life' would like to wish everyone out there in 'blogsville' a very Happy Valentine's Day!!!!! God Bless all and any who read this!!! Pat, A Remade LifePathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04854523577215564743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1835780002961630979.post-92026924336696258152014-01-28T06:19:00.001-08:002014-01-28T06:20:26.354-08:00"As the World Turns" Some of you may not remember that phase "As The World Turns"! It was an old soap opera way back in the day, very popular from what I remember. And very poetic/true. No matter what may occur in our lifes, the world keeps on 'a-going'! And so do we.

Our Christmas holidays were marked with my mom going back into the hospital for breathing troubles on Christmas Day. She is going back to the hospital more and more often and staying for longer 'visits'. She just got out this past Monday and went back to the nursing home. Her little body is holding on but each episode takes more and more away from her mind. She rarely lives in reality anymore, often forgetting where she is, why she's not at her own home, who's alive and who's not (this one is very hard on her--she keeps believing my dad is still here) and she is always very disoriented. It's hard to see my mom that way---she has always been so together and snappy. My older sister is retired and taking care of all the issues that come with an aging parent. I feel bad for Barbara since she must fight her own battles as well. Please say a prayer for my mom 'Goldie Marie' and for our Heavenly Father's loving arms to be wrapped around her.

On a different note, I had foot surgery on my right foot 4-days ago. I knew it was going soon---I taught water aerobics for over 18 yrs---that's 18yrs of jumping on the side of the pool like a crazy person--something had to give and I guess it's my feet!! Bone spurs, bunions and a bone that needed to be repositioned are just no fun, but I got it done and I'm at home recovering. Wish I could say I've been able to work on lots of new projects, but the truth is, the pain drugs have better much kept me 'out of the loop' until today. I do have some ideas a-brewin' that I'll share as they develop!

So, that's it for now, foot is starting to complain so guess I better elevate it and make it smile!!
In truth, she was actually my 'ex' mother-in-law since I've been divorced for over 20 yrs, but she has always been "Mom Gill" to me. She had been ill for several years now, including a recent pace-maker operation and Alzheimer's. She had become confined to a wheelchair, mainly due to her loss of balance which had caused several broken bones from falls. Her little 90-yr old body just could not take anymore!

She was an amazing woman, raising 9, yes 9, children while moving from base to base---my father-in-law was in the air force. I believe it was the loss of her husband, my ex-father-in-law, just 1yr ago, that took a major tole on her. She and "Big Morris" as she called him, had been married for 76 yrs!! She told me stories of moving to Panama and arriving at the base in the middle of the night. She turned on the lights to their base home and found........it was FULL of giant roaches!!! Not one to get discouraged, she cleaned one of the rooms, placed all 6-young children in there to sleep and then spent the rest of the night 'de-bugging' her new home-----and she was pregnant with her 7th child at that time!!! AMAZING!!

I was very fortunate to have her in my life. She was a wonderful example of the Proverbs 31 woman:
"She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed, Her husband also and he praises her:"
Proverbs 31:26-28

I could say soooooooo much more about this wonderful woman, her creativity, her stamina, her LOVE for all those she came in contact with. She was a constant inspiration to me and I will miss her greatly.

And so I say, "Good-bye, Mom Gill--rest well in the arms of Jesus. I will see again someday"

Well, there is hoop-la galore happening around here!!

Firstly, as I relayed in an earlier post, my mom fell again last month and broke the femur on her right leg---for the second time. I'm happy to report that she is doing very well, came through the surgery fine and is currently at rehab were she will be for an undetermined amount of time.

Secondly, things have changed for the better at Winnie Trade Days and they have found us another, smaller shop! We are very excited about this as we truly love being at the Winnie show and have developed good relations with many wonderful customers. And the fun part of all this is that our shop is actually a little house!! It is soooo cute and we have great plans to fix it up--we will be in it by the January show. More on that as it occurs.
Thirdly, I have decided to specialize in vintage/retro clothing and will be opening an ecommerce website soon! I am really, really excited about this adventure since I LOVE vintage/retro clothing and actually already have quite a collection. I hope to have this website up and running within the next few weeks and will be sure to notify EVERYONE when it is.
I do have one more adventure in the works, but 'mums' is the word on this one for now. Just know that this one is like 'slap yo' mamma' exciting and could be the next step to a free-range life!!

On another note, sure would like to hear from you guys. A little comment here, a little 'word' there, would be nice. Let me know what you are thinking, how your life is going and what I can do to help make your life pleasant!
Until next time, God bless all and any who read this,
It was a good show with lots and lots of customers and friends coming out to enjoy the shopping, live music and good food!

A wonderful band called the "Fab 5" Beatle impersonators played---they are very, very good and very popular here and all about. There was a bungee-jump, a human-hamster ball and much, much more.

It was truly great fun, a time to sell and a time to visit with good friends, customers and fellow vendors. Here are some pictures of my booth:
It's amazing how much you can fit into a 10' x 20' booth! And of course, I had to add a picture of my wonderful grandson, Brayden, in his dragon costume!! He and his mom, my daughter Brittany, came out to enjoy all the festivities.

Our next show will be in two weeks and then another one two weeks after that---November will be a very busy month for us!! And of course, the Thanksgiving holiday. We are thinking of going to Dallas to spend the holiday with my oldest daughter, Jennifer. Mainly it will be a little R & R for me!!

Well, that's it for now, must go and work on items for my etsy shop and for ebay. More on that later!

God Bless all and any who read this,
As some of you know, we've been there for about 5 yrs. now, first as just a 'shop-sharer' (we didn't own the shop but shared it with my good friend Kay) and then as the shop owner when Kay retired almost 2 yrs ago. There are just not enough words to describe the fun, trials, problems, fun, craziness, etc. that we have experienced during that time.

Like the time we went to work on the shop in between shows and walked in to find broken glass everywhere!! The shelf on one of our shelf units had collapsed and almost everything had broke. And then there was the time we went to work on the shop in-between shows and walked into an oven---the air conditioner was broken! The time the toilet overflowed, the time another shelf fell while I was under it and landed on my head---ouch!! As you can see, we've had many situations and we learned to deal with them all!

We have met some amazing people over the yrs!
These are only a few of the many, many wonderful customers who have graced the doors of our humble shop. So many allowed us into their lives and we shared our life with them as well..

I've had co-workers come out to see my shop and even a few old school chums------thanks Ethel Kay, you look the same as you did in high school, only better!!

The shop has also undergone 'changes' in look and style over the years---
And so, good times and bad, Winnie has definitely been a fun ride! We had hoped to simply move into a smaller shop, one that would be less expensive and easier to fill (it's a LOT of work shopping for a 660 sq ft. shop!). Unfortunately, at this time, there is none available. So, unless one opens up, the December show will be our last.

We still have soooooooo much stuff that we need to sell and only 2-months to do it in! We are marking many, many items down and will be bringing in more to try to move it out.

Please come and visit and maybe buy a treasure or two if you find yourself in the neighborhood! We will of course keep you updated.....who knows where God will lead us next!!
Last Thursday my son Jonathan, my grandson Brayden and I loaded up my van with all the necessities of life and began the 4.5 hour trip to Canton Trade Days, reportedly the largest flea market in the United States!

We've been planning this return trip for several months. Our first visit this past spring was amazing, even though I had been very ill the week before and couldn't walk around much. Anyway, away we went, Brayden singing and happy, Jonathan talking non-stop (as usual) and me just thankful to be able to take a mini-vacation from all the stress and strains of life.

We stopped for a little break for Brayden (and me, I had to go to the restroom!) at a McDonald's in Huntsville which was only about 1.5 hrs. into our drive. Here's Brayden enjoying himself at Mickey D's:

McDonald's is one of his favorite places. We try to take him there as often as possible but I honestly get a little nervous about the play area......have you seen how, uh, unclean those places are!? Sorry, McDonald's but truth is truth.

We finally made our way to Canton with only one more stop. The drive had been enjoyable, Brayden had stayed happy, Jonathan had kept talking and I was again, just enjoying the day!

We began shopping with purpose! Armed with our wire cart (you know, the ones you see EVERYWHERE at these kinda places), Brayden in his stroller, diaper bag with drink and snacks in hand, we were off and running!!! It didn't take us long to begin finding stuff we liked, me for the shop and Jonathan for himself. We bought a little of this and a little of that, but my favorite purchase was these 2-wonderful mannequins:

The female one is wonderful cause it's smaller than most of the mannequins I have--about the size of a teenage girl. This will work wonderfully for my vintage clothing. Seems like women were much smaller 'back in the day'. The little boy mannequin is actually about the size of Brayden! I HAD to have it because it has such a cute face! I will probably use him in the shop and the female will be used for my ebay stuff.

The evening was very tiring due to Brayden NOT wanting to go to sleep:
Yes, those are his pajama bottoms on his head!! He had so much fun that day, I guess he just wanted to keep going!!!!

And then, the fun stopped..........The next morning I got an emergency phone call from my sister. Seems my sweet mom had fallen AGAIN and she shattered the femor on her right leg!. This is the same leg she broke about 2.5 yrs ago. The first time she broke it just below her hip. This time it shattered the bone right above her knee.

We loaded up and started the long trip back. Thankfully Brayden was happy and then fell asleep cause I really didn't want to make too many stops. I needed to get home to mom.

We made it home and waited to hear from my sister as to what and how mom was doing. The doctors said it was a VERY bad break, her femor shattered (their words) and that she must have surgery. My sweet mom has had soooooo many surgeries over the past 5 yrs and her little body was weak, but there was just no way around it. Surgery was set for the next day at 3pm and thus begins my mom's next journey in life.

The surgery went well, mom is now bionic in that leg and the doctor was as pleased as he could be with a 88 yr old woman with brittle bones and numerous medical conditions.

That was just 5 days ago and mom has had several ups and downs. Her kidney function is at 50% and she is only lucid moments at a time---that could partially be due to the anesthics from surgery and after. The big news is that her heart is only functioning at about 30% and of course, that is causing a lot of concern. She's not hurting and they are watching her very closely but this is not the news we wanted.

As a child we think our parents will be around forever......as an adult, we realize how limited our time with them really is. Here are a few pictures of my mom and my kids:
Not trying to get all philosophical or nothing, but there are so many similarities.

You ever noticed how life seems to run in cycles? Things are going well, flowing nicely from day to day and then, BAMMMM, it hits!!! Both tires on the back of your car go flat and make you late for an important meeting---the vending machine at work eats not one, but two of your dollars and seems to almost dare you to try again!! Your hair starts falling out for some unknown reason, your dog poops in your most expensive pair of shoes and you discovery the strange smell in your refrigerator is coming from the tomato that fell behind the vegetable drawer and now looks like a science project!! No, none of these things happened to me...well, maybe the tomato thing, but that's all.

Our good times are high, our bad times are low and everything in between is what keeps us going. And so it is with business as well.

Things have been pretty 'low' for us business-wise for quite a while now. Online sales have been almost

non-existent and, as you know, my shop has been equally slow in sales. It has been an unpleasant valley!

Well I'm here to say that we are starting the upward climb on that hill and have started enjoying the high that comes with success! Sales at the shop have picked up greatly and that by itself is a blessing. However, I seem to be on a roll with my online sales as well!! I've been posting vintage clothing on ebay (my seller id is 'aremadelife' in case you would like to check it out!) and, good news, THEY ARE SELLING!! Not only that but I've been doing well in both my etsy shops --lovethatvintagestyle and aremadelife---check those out too if you have time!!

So, we are currently on a really nice HIGH----a blessing indeed! But, I keep remembering that those low valleys are just on the other side of that hill and that I need to keep my 'feet' planted in reality. Some days are good, some days are bad, but thanks to our Heavenly Father, we get through them all-----and if we remember to trust in Him we will enjoy those wonderful highs and learn from those unpleasant lows!

So we are enjoying this time of success and wanted to share it with you! Here are a few picture's of my items on ebay and new pic's of the shop!

I don't know about you, but when the mornings start getting a little cooler (and I do mean A LITTLE--it's still about 76 degrees in the mornings and topping out around 94-100 by the end of the day!!) and the trees start thinking of shedding their leafs.....well,I find myself feeling all frisky and, dare I say it, mischievous!! NOT in a bad way, but kinda like wanting to run up behind people you know and yell "Boo", then giggle and run off! What?...you don't think of doing that kinda thing?! Well, you should!!

As I get older (I just had a b-day last month) I find myself thinking more and more of my childhood and all the things the kids in the neighborhood use to do. Things like staying outside until our parents practically dragged us back inside; or playing tennis in the middle of the street until we just got too tired to chase the ball anymore; or just sitting on the street curb and talking...not about anything in particular, just talking.

Those were good days, but these days can be good too! So I invite you to 'get a little mischievous' (in a good way!) Grab your best bud and go running through the sprinklers before it gets too cold, or invite friends over for pizza and have a food fight (in the backyard of course--NO ONE likes to clean the kitchen!), or just sit on the street curb and talk about nothing in particular---I think you will find it will help to 'cleanse' away all your tensions and stress...and hopefully give you a refreshed outlook on life!

Before I leave you, here are a few pictures of my curent ongoing project, one I am very excited about. I may try to have a 'grand opening/reveal' before the holidays...at least that's my goal. There is still lots to work out and I can't reveal too much at this time but will try very soon!!
Although we didn't make as much money as we did last month we did ok-- but the real joy came in meeting some of the greatest customers in the world!!

I had the great pleasure of meeting many new customers as well as seeing some long-time returning ones. What fun it was to visiting with people, make new friends and 'share' the love of God with so many!! I felt truly blessed to meet each and every one that came into my shop.

There was the lovely mom-in-law and daughter-in-law who came in with the cutest of babies (don't worry Brayden, grandma still loves you the best!). The young ladies husband was in the military and had been deployed. She was part of a military group that was raising money for the troops by creating a calendar of military wives dressed in vintage clothing---which just happens to be one of my specialties. We talked and shared thoughts about vintage clothing, she checked out all the different vintage styles I had and even purchased some. I gave her my contact info and hope we will stay in touch with each other.

Then there was the young girl (17 yrs old) who came in with her mom to look for and buy vintage clothing, not for any party or event but just because she LOVES vintage clothing!! It just thrills my heart to see young people enjoying great things from the past. And her mom was the best--she bought her daughter a complete outfit, dress and matching hat. This young lady is a definite individual, one who knows who she is and not likely to fall into the 'status quo'!

And remember my little buddy Zack, the one who won the American Pickers youth contest, a $10,000 scholarship and a trip to the Smithsonian? Well, my little buddy ain't so little anymore!! I saw him walking down the hall and almost didn't recognize him!! He's grown a foot and it now taller than me and has 'leaned-down' and lost his baby fat. And even though he's a young teenager, he stopped to visit and we had a good hugging session!! That kid definitely has a place in my heart!!

Well, that's pretty much how our weekend went. We only had one minor issue that was our 'fly in the ointment'. I was cleaning off one of our glass shelf units when one of the shelves collapsed and all the glassware on that shelf broke. But I count my blessings cause I could have been hurt/cut my the flying glass however, I came away without a scratch! Thank you Lord for your protecting hand!

So, here are a few pictures for you to enjoy, unfortunately none of our customers--it was just too busy to stop to take pictures.
